(Not actually a picture of my moped.)

"Yamahopper"

QT50 Moped

1981-1985 This was my first two-wheeled ride. Growing up, my parents would never in a million years let me get a motorcycle.  Then one day my dad bought a new QT50 for "the family." I was the only one who ended up riding it though. Was great for commuting for two years at college since I could ride it around campus where students couldn't bring their cars.

(Stock photo - mine was midnight blue with a windscreen.)

1979 KZ750

1986-1987 This was my first real motorcycle.  Cost me $500 from a friend of a friend who was only offered $500 on a trade-in.  A little big for a starter bike but I never dumped it. I didn't maintain it much and it stopped working after a couple of years of occasional riding.  Gave it to another friend of a friend who got it running and sent me a check for $250 after he got it running and sold it.

(Stock photo - mine was black with a sissy bar.)

"Nighthawk"

1982 CB650SC

1989-1992 Got this bike in great shape with 9,000 miles for a good deal from a guy who was getting divorced. Was still only an occasional rider but I did some longer day rides with my girlfriend on this bike. It was a good solid bike that was easy and fun to ride.

After a couple of years the gas tank rusted and started leaking. I paid a ton of money to get it fixed. Then I was spending a lot of time out of town so I let the tabs lapse and stopped riding it. It got another gas tank leak so I gave up and let it sit until 2001 when I found someone who paid me $250 for it. IT still turned and had compression but needed LOTS of maintenance.

"Elite" Scooter

1987 CH80

2007-2008 I got this for free from a friend whose wife wanted it out of the garage. It hadn't been run in quite a few years but I was able to get it running with some work.

I didn't ride this very much. I find that going 30+ mph on this is scarier than riding a real motorcycle at much higher speeds.

I sold in in the summer of 2008 when gas prices were high.
