Replace K Bike Trip Odometer Replacing the trip odometer in a K bike instrument cluster is a fairly easy DIY task. Details on how to remove the instrument cluster from the various K models can be found at the following link: K Bike Instrument Cluster 1 - Place the instrument cluster upside down on a towel to protect it and then remove all of the screws around the perimeter of the backplate. Remove the backplate. 2 - Undo these six Phillips screws.
3 - Remove the two screws that hold the speedometer sensor connector in (not there on early bikes) and then pull out the connector.
4 - Remove the screw that holds the speedometer subassembly to the internal frame of the instrument cluster - lower right hand corner in picture above. 5 - Pull the trip odometer knob part way out, turn the cluster over and gently shake the "guts" out. Be very careful with the guts. The speedo and tach needles are very delicate and will bend if you look at them crossways. The speedometer side subassembly should lift up and separate from the rest of the guts. 6 - Remove the two screws under the bottom that are holding the trip odometer in and then it comes right out.
7 - Once you've replaced the trip odometer, put the speedometer subassembly back with the guts. With the trip odometer knob pulled part way out, put the housing over the guts, flip everything back over so that the faceplates are pointing down and then put everything back together.
