The fuse block on a K bike is
located below the left rear of the gas tank under the left
side cover.

How To Tell If A BMW Fuse Has Blown:
The BMW fuses have an exposed
wire on the back of them. When the fuse blows that wire
melts to disconnect the circuit so you can visually tell if
a fuse is blown. It's a tiny wire so you have to look
closely to see if the fuse has blown.
Fuse Size:
You can also use generic standard
ATC fuses in lieu of the BMW factory fuses. (Not to be
confused with Mini ATC fuses.)
To see if a generic ATC fuse is
blown you need to pull the fuse to see if the wire inside of
it has melted.
Direction:
The forward (left) side of the
fuses is the input ("hot") side of each fuse.

Adding Fuses:
When I add electrical stuff to my
K bikes I don't like adding in-line fuses because I think
they're a ghetto way to do things. So I add a mini fuse
block right next to the factory fuses:

Adding Fuses To A K1, K100RS4V or K1100:
K1s, K100RS4Vs and K1100s have
empty fuse slots at the bottom that can be used for adding
your own. Here's an example where I added three fuses to a
K1100RS:
